Ryan Gosling has been an actor for more than 27 years. He started out as a child star on Disney Channel’s The Mickey Mouse Club and has made countless movies like The Notebook, Blue Valentine, and La La Land.
In this video, we’ll be exploring 6 of what we believe are Ryan Gosling’s best movies ever made.
6. Blade Runner 2049
Starting off with a sequel to the 1982 film Blade Runner, this movie stars Ryan Gosling and Harrison Ford. Ryan Gosling plays K, a Nexus-9 replicant “blade runner” who ends up uncovering a secret that will destabilize society and the course of civilization.
This ever-awaited sequel which took 35 years to make, premiered on October 3, 2017, and received critical acclaim from critics for the film’s acting, direction, cinematography, editing, musical score, and of course, its faithfulness to the original film.
However, the film was a box office disappointment, grossing only $260.5 million worldwide against a budget of $185 million. Nevertheless, Blade Runner 2049 was a great film, and Ryan Gosling was great at it.
5. Blue Valentine
Oscar-Nominated Blue Valentine is the next on our list. This movie revolves around the relationship of a couple and the highs and lows of the two. The film shifts back and forth in time between the two’s courtship and beginnings and the fading of feelings and dissolution of their marriage.
This movie received critical acclaim, and Gosling was nominated for the Golden Globe Award for Best Actor.
4. Crazy, Stupid, Love
Although in Crazy, Stupid, Love Ryan Gosling shares the screen with several other big-name actors like Steve Carell, Julianne Moore, and Emma Stone, it’s undeniable that all the scenes Ryan Gosling were in gravitated toward him.
The movie is a wonderful story of people, specifically Cal, who ends up meeting a friend who teaches him how to rediscover his manhood and pick up girls at bars. Crazy, Stupid, Love is a fun, mellow, comedic love story done with compelling characters.
3. Drive
Great soundtrack, amazing acting, compelling story, and creative cinematography. What more could you ask for from a movie? Drive is arguably one of the best movies Ryan Gosling has been in with him as the lead actor. The movie is a poetic masterpiece in terms of its juxtaposition of minimalism and excessive violence. Most critics feel that drive is a fully realized vision of arthouse action, and we definitely aren’t arguing with that.
2. La La Land
La La Land is a 2016 American musical romantic comedy-drama that brought Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone together for a reunion. The film revolves around Sebastian Wilder, a Jazz Pianist played by Ryan Gosling, and Mia Dolan, an aspiring actress played by Emma Stone.
The two meet and fall in love in Los Angeles while pursuing their dreams while most viewers fell in love with the movie as well. The movie had great production with amazing direction and writing by Damien Chazelle, and this definitely paid off when La La La ended up being a commercial and critical success, grossing $448 million worldwide with just a $30 million budget and racking in a record-breaking seven awards from its seven nominations in the Golden Globes.
1. The Notebook
Ending this list with probably his most famous movie next to La La Land, Ryan Gosling stars as Noah Calhoun in The Notebook. The 2004 American romantic drama based on the 1996 novel of world-renowned author Nicholas Sparks revolves around the plot of a young couple who fell in love in the 1940s. Their story is read from a notebook in the present day by an elderly man living in a nursing home to a friend.
Ryan Gosling’s performance in this film alongside Rachel McAdams, who plays his lover, Allie Hamilton, was what made this movie so convincing and memorable. One for the books.
