As children, we’ve been exposed to a lot of cartoons and movies about friendly sea creatures. Nemo and his friends. Ariel and her singing crustacean companions.

We’ve come to love these creatures for being friendly, but which of these are true to life? In this video, we’ll talk about the ten friendliest animals that can be found in the ocean.

The Dolphin

The first on our list is one of the most popular and loved sea creatures in the world. They’re often portrayed as friendly, helpful creatures in books and movies, even gaining the reputation of shark protection in some places of the world.

Not only are they friendly, but they’re also one of the most intelligent and charming creatures in the world.

The Manta Ray

Typically people don’t perceive Sea Rays as friendly creatures because of stinging incidents all over the globe. However, the Manta Ray and some other members of this family are an exception to this.

The Manta Ray is quite famous for its friendly and social behaviour towards other creatures, especially humans. Dozens of footage show that these horned sea creatures do not pose any threat to humans. Hence, its nickname is “the Sea Angel.”

Mr Ray, the friendly teacher blue and white spotted eagle ray in Finding Nemo, is also another warm ray.

The Whale Shark

Sharks, in general, have been feared all around the world because they’re DEFINITELY not the friendliest creatures. However, the Whale Shark is an exception. They’re the most sociable sharks in the world and one of the friendliest creatures both inland and sea.

Whale Sharks have gained a reputation as pacifist animals that do not pose a threat to humans and have since garnered a fanbase of tourists all over the world. During the migrating season, people flock to places like Cancun and Cebu City to swim with these gentle giants.

P.S. They’re sharks, not whales.

The Sea Turtle

Snorkelling with Sea Turtles has become one of the most common tourist activities at sea, and it’s for a good reason. These creatures are friendly, calm, and very very comfortable around humans. Treat them with kindness, and they’ll reward you back with a swimming partner.

The Pacific Gray Whale

The first true whale on this list is quite a peculiar story. They’re known as the Devil Fish. However, this nickname is quite an unfair one as they’ve only gained it because of their aggressive behaviour towards whaling vessels in the past.

Once the whaling industry stopped their pursuits on these creatures, they became social and friendly to small ships and vessels, even playing around with them and seeming to be perfectly comfortable with humans touching them.

The Sea Lion

Puppies of the sea. It seems that smarter creatures are also the friendliest ones as the sea lions are similar to whales and dolphins in terms of intellect. They’re intelligent, odd, and weird sound-making creatures that appreciate the presence of humans. Cases of sea lions interacting with humans at sea have been well documented too.

The Manatee

If we have puppies, then we have cows too. The Manatee is commonly known as the cows of the sea. They’re herbivores that spend their entire lives eating seagrasses and freshwater vegetation.

It’s a surprise to find out that manatees have still retained their friendly nature even though the main reason why they’re endangered is because of humans.

The Beluga Whale

These round-headed whales are the ones you find commonly in huge oceanariums and zoos. They are convenient to keep because of their size and because of their highly social nature.

In the wild, these whales are known to live in groups of at least ten members in a pod and at times stay in a group of thousands to socialize.

We’re sure that there are countless other friendly creatures in the ocean and even more on land, but that’s all that we have for today. The next time you meet one of these social creatures, be sure to treat them with love and respect.
