In 2021, we needed a good laugh more than ever. Lucky for us, we’ve had more than enough films that made us laugh our hearts out. We’ve had our fair share of witty, comedic, and enjoyable films from family-friendly films to R-rated movies.

In this post, we’ll be looking at 6 Comedy Movies from 2021 you should see.

  1. The Suicide Squad

This remake of the 2016 DCEU movie with a much darker and harsher tone plagued with a rushed schedule and indecisive producers is definitely so much better. With James Gunn at the helm, with Margot Robbie returning for the role of Harley Quinn, and a fresh new vision and take on the script, The Suicide Squad has cemented itself as one of the best—if not the best—movies to have come from the DC Extended Universe.

The addition of characters like the ironic patriot Peacemaker played by John Cena and the adorable yet equally scary King Shark has made The Suicide Squad a confusing yet compelling comedy.

  1. Ghostbusters: Afterlife

After the girl version remake of Ghostbusters starring Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, and Leslie Jones in 2016, which divided the hearts of many fans, Ghostbusters: Afterlife finally does it right.

Starring Paul Rudd, Mckenna Grace, Finn Wolfhard, and the welcome surprise recurrence of the original cast, Afterlife has made the reintroduction of this franchise a good one. The new cast is able to capture some of the comedy magic from the original while maintaining a fresh new take on the series.

  1. Sing 2

Featuring an all-star cast of Scarlett Johansson, Tori Kelley, Pharrel Williams, Matthew McConaughey, Reese Witherspoon, and more, Sing 2 has elevated itself from the first movie. For an animated musical comedy with expectations that have already been met in the first movie, Sing 2 has definitely aced being a sequel.

It sends positive and uplifting messages, has a great soundtrack, and has an easy-to-follow storyline. If you’re looking for a fun movie to watch with the kids that won’t bore you to death, Sing 2 is a great choice.

  1. Licorice Pizza

Written, directed, and procured by Paul Thomas Anderson, Licorice Pizza is one of the surprise sleepers of 2021. It’s a coming-of-age comedy-drama film that manages to tug the nostalgic heartstrings of viewers while keeping the laughs coming.

It revolves around Alana Kane, a 25-year old Jewish girl who tries to get her act together while being pursued by Gary Valentine, a child actor who hasn’t realized that he’s already too old for the roles he’s auditioning for. Licorice Pizza is a cool and collected blend of nostalgia and comedy.

  1. The Mitchells Vs. The Machines

From the producers who made Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse and Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs, The Mitchells Vs. The Machines is a charming and fun satire that gets you thinking.

Exploring the thought of just how over-reliant mankind has been on technology while putting forward one of the best cinematic features of 2021 and creating complex chemistry between the characters is not an easy feat, but The Mitchells Vs. The Machines can pull this off.

  1. Don’t Look Up

Most people didn’t think that having the best laugh you’ve had in a while having an existential crisis was possible. Don’t Look Up proves most people wrong. Telling the story of Dr. Randal Mindy and Kate Dibiasky, who discover an approaching comment that will inevitably destroy planet earth while frustrating us with the painfully realistic apathetic actions of people in power, Don’t Look Up is a must-watch.

It’s one of the funniest yet scariest movies to have come out in 2021. And it isn’t even horror. The performances of an all-star cast, including Jennifer Lawrence and Leonardo DiCaprio, have cemented it as the most important comedy from 2021.
