Disney+’s successful projects this year have done them a top competing streaming service. Closing off 2021, Disney+ has a lot of plans for 2022! 

 

Ice Age: Adventures of Buck Wild 

On January 28th, Disney+ will release Ice Age: Adventures of Buck Wild, a film following possum brothers Crash and Eddie as they team up with a weasel named Buck Wild. 

 

Sneakerella 

Coming to Disney+ on February 18th, Sneakerella is a modern musical twist on the classic Cinderella. Set in modern-day Queens, NY, the film features a predominantly Black and gender-swapped cast. 

 

The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder

Much of the original Proud Family voice cast is returning for this remake, including Penny Proud, voiced by Kyla Pratt. Louder and Prouder will debut in February 2022.

 

Baymax!

The first trailer of Baymax! is produced in the same 3D art style as the original Big Hero 6 film. We’re sure to witness Baymax have a lot of exciting adventures on his own this summer 2022.

 

Cheaper by the Dozen

Coming to Disney+ in March 2022, Cheaper by the Dozen comes back with another reboot. This series will be directed by Gail Lerner, who has produced other TV series like Will and Grace and Blackish.

 

Black Rock Shooter: Dawn Fall

Black Rock Shooter: Dawn Fall is a reboot of the popular eight-episode anime. The reboot will stream exclusively to the US and air on Japanese TV starting April 2022. 

 

Chip ‘n Dale Rescue Rangers

Rescue Ranger has been in production since 2014, and it’s reported to release in the spring of 2022. With an all-too-familiar duo returning to the screen, this film will be something to look forward to.

 

Better Nate than Never

Better Nate than Never will come to Disney+ in spring 2022 as an original musical. Based on the young adult novel by Tim Federle, we follow Nate escaping his midwestern life to chase his dreams.

 

Pinocchio

Streaming exclusively on Disney+ in the fall of 2022, this live-action retelling of Pinocchio comes with an all-star cast. Featuring Tom Hanks, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and more.

 

Disenchanted

Most of the original “Enchanted” cast returns for this long-awaited sequel, with Amy Adams as Giselle. Disney+ will release Disenchanted in fall 2022.

 

Hocus Pocus 2

The sequel to the first Hocus Pocus film is coming to viewers in Fall 2022. The film stars the iconic witch sisters, Sarah Jessica Parker, Kathy Najimy, and Bette Middler. 

 

The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special

This holiday special serves as an interlude between a Thor film and Guardians vol. 3. The film is set for release in late 2022.

 

Star Wars: Andor

Star Wars: Andor is a spinoff of Rogue One, following Andor as he fights against the empire. This series is a spy thriller, putting Star Wars in new genre territory.

 

  1. Marvel

We get to see Kamala Khan as Ms. Marvel on screen for the first time sometime in 2022. In Kamala’s live-action debut, she will be played by actress Iman Vellani. 

 

Star Wars: Obi-wan Kenobi

Along with other original Star Wars cast, Ewan McGregor will star in the Obi-wan Kenobi Disney+ series. Set approximately a decade after Revenge of the Sith, the series teases a long-awaited rematch between Kenobi and Darth Vader. 

 

Cars on the Road

Lightning McQueen takes us on a brand new trip around the world of Cars in “Cars on the Road.” In 2022, we follow Lightning and Mater as we explore new Cars content and characters.

 

Zootopia+

Disney gives us Zootopia+ as a sequel to Zootopia, where we revisit the old characters and meet new ones. Zootopia+ is set to release sometime in 2022.

 

Willow

In the Heights director John M. Chu will be directing this George Lucas original film reboot. The film will have Ron Howard, the original director of the first film, as an executive producer.

 

From age-old love story retellings to Star wars remakes, all that and more will be coming to Disney+ in 2022. So get comfy and get your popcorn ready!
