When talking about dedication for movies, actors love to get into their roles and bring their characters to life on screen. Method acting is one of the most infamous and interesting ways to do this, with great actors like Marlon Brando, Robert De Niro, and of course, Heath Ledger cementing themselves on the acting scene. Actors like Shia Labeouf and Johnny Depp take these even further, committing permanently to their roles by getting tattoos.

In this video, we’ll be looking at several Hollywood actors who got tattoos for their better portrayal of their roles and commemorative tattoos for the long-time projects they hold dear to them.

Emilia Clarke

Starting with an icon, the mother of dragons got two tattoos for two of her biggest roles. The first is for Game of Thrones, where she got three small dragons tattooed on her wrist in commemoration of her role as Daenerys Targaryen.

For her next tattoo, she decided to finally keep a tattoo that she had for Lou in the critically acclaimed film Me Before. You starring alongside Sam Claflin. She portrays Louisa Clark, who sports a cute little bee tattoo on her pinky finger in the film. She loved working on the film so much, and she decided to get a real tattoo on the same spot.

Johnny Depp

An excellent actor who’s portrayed a lot of interesting characters in his career has shown that he’s willing to commit to the role. For arguably his most famous role, Johnny Depp brings to life the cunning and comedic Captain Jack Sparrow. Although his tattoo of a sparrow on his right arm was a temporary one, like Emilia Clarke, he eventually decided to get a real tattoo almost exactly the same on the same location.

The Avengers Cast

Considering how long and sentimental the filming for the movies took and how much is just meant to the cast in general, it’s no surprise that Avengers’ actors and crew would do something to commemorate their memories in something. This something ended up to be a minimalist avengers logo on their wrists and arms. In an interview with People, Robert Downey Jr., who plays the Iconic Iron-Man, who started it all, revealed that 5 out of the original six avengers decided to get inked.

According to him, it was Scar Jo’s idea, and she managed to convince Chris Evans to get a tattoo with him in New York. Soon enough, when the black widow actress was able to convince Robert Downy Jr. and Jeremy Renner, they flew the tattoo artist to L.A. and got the tattoo. In the end, they also managed to bully Chris Hemsworth, the god of thunder, to get it too.

Shia LaBeouf

Last but not the least is one of Hollywood’s most infamous and well-known actors for his antics. The Transformers actor and child star who started out as an actor for the Disney Channel Series Even Steven reportedly got 12 tattoos while filming American Honey, a 2016 epic road comedy-drama film.

The actor flaunted the large thigh tattoos he got while filming American Honey on The Ellen DeGeneres Show set. This eventually gave way to a discussion that told us all about his tattoos for his films. According to LaBeouf, the two tattoos above his kneecaps are portraits of Missy Elliot.

Honorable Mentions

Although they didn’t do it during the film or for the film, these honorable mentions are still worth talking about as it’s pretty sweet to see how attached these actors and actresses are to their shows and movies.

Aaron Paul and Bryan Cranston from Breaking Bad got tattoos in honor of their long-running show. Aaron got a tattoo that said “No Half Measures,” the title to Season 3’s Episode 12, and Bryan got a subtle tattoo of the Breaking Bad logo on his fingers.

Another honorable mention is Tom Holland, who got a tattoo in honor of his role as spider-man for the films.
